Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!

“Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it” – Ferris Bueller

I chose the movie poster from John Hughes’ famous film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off because I am strong believer on Ferris’ point of view on life. The movie is about a student, Ferris Bueller, who decides to skip school and take the day off with two of his best friends. Basically the movie is about learning to just have fun. For example, I used to skip school just to make Youtube videos with my friend because we started a Youtube channel called YoMommaProductionz. Now I do not advocate “no work and all play”, but I agree with Ferris’ philosophy that sometimes you just have to take time to smell the roses. Because I take a more laid back outlook on life, it takes a lot to anger me, to stress me out, or to embarrass me.

I first saw this movie in eighth grade and thought the movie was amazing, but more importantly it gave me the perspective that I have today. The movie shows how important it can be just to hang out with your friends and have a fun day, instead of constantly worrying about the work you have to do or what the consequences of having fun may be. I think the image or movie poster does a good job of capturing my personality because I am laidback and prefer to relax, but the image would have been a better representation of myself if it showed some acknowledgment for the need for work. If I were to produce the image I would make it so that Ferris was lounging on a stack of books to show my philosophy of “some work and more play”.  Below is an image that I produced/ photoshopped so that the movie poster would be a better representation of myself.

This movie showed me that sometimes it’s important to be willing to take risks and the importance of not allowing for yourself to be hedged in by your own fears. Like Ferris, I am always ready for whatever the next day may bring.

It’s amazing that the internet makes this image from this classic 80’s movie so accessible and easy to find, but at the same time it allows people, like myself, to easily alter the movie poster. While I consider the access that the Internet provides us with as a good thing, it also opens doors for plagiarism and for doctored images.

Alex, first of all great job ‘photoshop-ing’ the movie poster. If you didn’t mention it I would’ve never guess that you photoshopped the image. I tend to stress out about a lot things in life, mostly because I’m freaked out about my future. As I briefly mentioned in my presentation I go to the beach to get away from these daily stresses. I don’t think I ever watched the whole movie but I remember watching bits and pieces of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. I will watch it over the upcoming weekend and maybe I’ll be able to turn down my daily stress a little bit. Good post!
